Great work! You have correctly identified polymer 2 as polyethene!
The monomer of polyethene, ethene, is manufactured in larger quantities than any other organic chemical. Most of it is derived from the vapour-phase cracking of ethane, various petroleum fractions and crude oil. The polymer polyethene is probably the most important polymeric substance, and was the first polymer discovered, in 1933. It has many uses today, including plastic bottles, lids and caps, cling-films and some plastic bags, insulating coverings for wire and cables, and plastic pipes used for construction, plastic mouldings on car doors, and small appliances.
